  • 8th:The Grizzly 2009 - Trails and Tribulations. wentyish muddy, hilly, boggy, beachy miles of the multiest-terrain running experience you will find this side of the end of time. So what's it all about? Well, it's by no means the toughest race around; indeed, some say that it's getting too easy but they're missing the point. It has changed over the years and nearly died on a few occasions, but hundreds keep coming back for more so Axe Valley Runners must still be getting it right. Whatever it isn't, it is an experience. .

  • 25th/26th:Wiscombe Park Hill Climb - Woolbridge Motor Club - The 2006 season is under way with two days of excellent hillclimbing with drivers from central southern and the south-west contesting numerous championships including the Bridge Tyres and Wheels South West series. Wiscombe's own championship which is also supported by Mike Potter's Bridge Tyres will also feature as well as the HSA's Aldon Automotive series.

  • 7th:Seaton Music - Seaton Town Hall,Elizabeth-Jane Baldry (harp) Captivating harp solos from five centuries performed by one of England's finest harpists. Enjoy a delicious romp through refined Renaissance, glittering Baroque, naughty Victorian Fairies and accessible contemporary music. NB. The AGM of SEATONmusic is at 7.15pm after which there are complimentary refreshments.
  • 9th:The 6th Garden Fair at Colyton Grammer School. 10.00am - 4.0pm n the School ground. Free gardening advice, plant & gardening stalls, indoor crafts, refreshments, indoor children's area.
  • 9th:Wiscombe Park Hill Climb - 500 Owners Association. Racing cars, motorcycles and sidecars. The 500 Owners Association host a meeting packed with motorcycle powered machinery. Ancient and modern. Cars and motorcycles. Not forgetting the spectacular sidecars. They will be joined by a selection of racing and sports racing cars. The best of motor racing nostalgia and competition with the relaxed spirit of sportsmanship.
  • 10th:Wiscombe Park Hill Climb - Vintage Sports Car Club The scenic beauty of Wiscombe Park provides a superb backdrop for the most emotive meeting of the season. The sight, sound and smell of vintage racing cars gracing the Devon parkland takes one back to a past era but that does not mean the competition is any less important. Enjoy this unrivalled event particularly this year with numerous E.R.A.s in action.

  • 21st-23rd:Devon County Show 2009 - 'Devon's BIG day out' May Westpoint, Exeter
  • 15th: Farmers Market in Seaton Town Hall
  • 16th:Wiscombe Park Hill Climb - Torbay Motor Club Having promoted meetings at Finlake Park (near Exeter) in addition to Odicombe, Torbay Motor Club will be running their second event at Wiscombe Park. In order to maximise the entry the class structure will be similar to that of Wildlife Autosport which will provide a wide selection of saloons and sports cars (both roadgoing and modified) as well as single seater racers.
  • 17th:Wiscombe Park Hill Climb - Wildlife Autosport Re-known for their events at Cricket St Thomas, Wildlife Autosport (Burnham-on-Sea M.C. and Taunton Motoring Club) have now established this meeting as a fine example of championship hillclimbing. This event includes the A.C.S.M.C. Guildford Tyres Speed series plus of course the fiercely fought Wiscombe Park Bridge Tyres and Wheels Championship.
  • 22nd, 23rd amp& 24th:LYME REGIS FOSSIL FESTIVAL 2009 - EVOLUTION ROCKS! 'Uncoiling the past' join in the national 'Darwin 200' celebrations a colourful mix of natural science and the arts packed full of events for a fun filled festival.This annual fossil festival attracts visitors from across the UK who can participate in walks, talks and workshops. They can also meet palaeontologists from the Natural History Museum who go down to Lyme every year to identify any fossil finds and run activities

June

  • 7th:Seaton Tramway - 15th Annual Vintage Vehicle Rally. "Fair Field", Umborne Bridge, Colyton and Colyton Station. A fantastic day out to see a variety of vintage cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, trade stands and lots more.

  • 19th:Pecorama - Peco Open Garden Day for Charity Free entry to the Gardens and Peco Model Railway Exhibition. Pay only for rides on the railway.
  • July 25th /26th:Wiscombe Park Hill Climb - The National Championships (Woolbridge M.C.) See the country's fastest car and driver combinations battling for all important championship points. Saturday is devoted to practice with the all-important qualifying runs commencing on Sunday morning and then during the course of the day the fastest registered contenders will be vying for a place in the two exciting 'Top Twelve Shoot Outs'. The spectacle of powerful (over 600 b.h.p.) racing cars being skilfully driven on the challenging track at Wiscombe make this a 'must do' meeting.
  • 26th:Branscombe Air Show - The Air day is organised by members of the Devon Strut Club and includes flying and static displays of historic aircraft from the First and Second World Wars. Up to 10,000 enthusiasts of vintage, light and micro-light aircraft attend the one day event.
  • 31st - 7th August:Sidmouth Folk Week 2009 - if you’ve been to Sidmouth Festival before, you’ll know all about having a whole week filled with music, singing, dancing, pub sessions, workshops, concerts, storytelling, cream teas, lying on the beach and Late Night Extra

August

  • 6th:Honiton Show - The show is traditionally held on the first Thursday in August each year and has grown to become one of the largest 'one day' shows of its kind in the country. It represents a unique blend of traditional with the new in an agricultural setting where the emphasis is on agriculture and associated activities first and foremost. It is a showcase for the best of local farming, crafts and rural skills. It draws exhibitors and visitors from all walks of life. Over 20,000 people attend the show and in the region of 1500 livestock entries are received.

  • 24th-28th:Pecorama - Peco Loco Week The busiest week of the year for the Beer Heights Light Railway with an intensive train service operated by the entire Peco fleet, assisted by guest locomotives.
  • 29th: Start of Seaton Carnival Week
  • 30th:Classic Vehicle and Custom Show - On Seaton Esplanade 10.0am to 5.0pm in conjunction with the Jaguar Enthusiast's Club.
  • 30th-31st:Pecorama - Bank Holiday Weekend Special Events Including miniature traction engine rides. Visiting locos on the railway, guest model railway layouts on display in the Lecture Theatre and entertainment in our Garden Theatre.

September

  • 5th:Seaton Carnival Procession.
  • 5th /6th:Wiscombe Park Hill Climb - The 'Five Clubs' Traditionally the last major championship meeting of the season the 'Five Clubs' event caters for a wide selection of sporting machinery and championships. As in recent years the action revolves around regional championships and with the season coming to a close there is important work to be done by those with aspirations of success in their chosen series.

  • 13th:Wiscombe Park Hill Climb - National Hill Climb Association The final meeting of the season and the motorcycles are back. Not just two wheeled (solo) motorbikes but the stunning sidecars and combinations as well. Always spectacular and fun to watch you can see the commitment of these daring riders as they race through the testing 'Esses' section of the course. Always ‘on the edge’, always entertaining!
  • 18th:The Tour of Britain 2009, Britain's premier cycle race,will pass through Axminster and Seaton on 18 September.
  • 18th: Farmers Market in Seaton Town Hall
  • 26th:Colyford Goose Fair - A large number of villagers and friends dress in medieval costume and form a procession starting at the Elms. This colourful procession of many hundreds of people follow the Mayor of Colyford and his lady in the horse-drawn cart down to Springfield to the accompaniment of much music and jollity from the Mummers and the many providers of medieval music. Among the entertainers there are mummers, strolling players, dancers and, the highlight of the afternoon, the mummers play.
